Postpartum is a life-changing transformation

Culturally, we focus so much energy on birth, most of it based on fear, but birth is just the beginning.

Because when a baby is born, so is a mother, and the birth of a mother can be more intense than childbirth.

This is a major life transition that requires support, but too many new parents feel overwhelmed, exhausted and isolated as they navigate this journey alone.

The data is clear: support is essential

At least 1 in 5 women experience anxiety, depression or both during the transition to motherhood.

2 out of 3 mothers don’t meet their own breastfeeding goals.

The leading cause of maternal death in Australia, the United States, Canada and New Zealand is suicide.

Parents urgently need practical and emotional support, access to resources based on scientific evidence and referrals to appropriate professionals.

Learn to support newborn mothers with:

♡ Evidence-based strategies to support breastfeeding, mental health and sleep

♡ Traditional, hands-on cultural care including food, rest and warmth

♡ A 21st century village of community and professional support

♡ Care that builds parents confidence, bonding and intuition

♡ Information to make decisions without pressure or judgement

♡ Recognition of matrescence as a rite of passage, not just a recovery period

Check out some of our graduates below for inspiration!

Caitlin returned to her corporate job after having her second baby, but her priorities had changed and the work was unfulfilling. Less than one year after enrolling in Newborn Mothers training, she published her website and got her first client.

Ayla felt isolated as a stay-at-home mum and a remedial massage therapist. She loved meeting other postpartum professionals around the world and after completing this training her income has increased and she feels she has found her life’s work.

Tash was a counsellor for a not-for-profit organisation who studied whilst working and caring for her two young children. She completed the training in only three months, found it personally healing as a mother and has already launched her business.

Meet the educator

Hi, I’m Julia!

I first noticed gaps in postpartum care before I became a mother myself, and trained as a postpartum doula in 2008 to better understand how to support mothers during this life-changing transition.

People saw me caring for families and asked how they could do this work too. There were very few training options available in my area at the time, so I began teaching others around my mum’s kitchen table in Fremantle, Western Australia.

Today, Newborn Mothers is a global education company with thousands of students in over 60 countries, but our mission remains the same. Changing the way society values and cares for mothers.

I designed Postpartum Education and Care Professional Training as a flexible and self-paced way of learning comprehensive postpartum knowledge and developing a broad range of practical skills.

How it all works:

✓ Enrol anytime and study at a flexible pace

Designed to be inclusive for all learners. Access bite-sized lessons from anywhere in the world, available as video, audio, or text. There are no formal assessments required to graduate, simply finish the modules and pass the completion quiz.

✓ Lifetime access

Many of our students complete the 25+ hours of training in four to six months, but there’s no rush. Review lessons whenever needed, especially when starting to work with clients, and stay updated with emerging research.

✓ Ongoing group mentoring calls and community

Connect with a global community of hundreds of postpartum professionals from dozens of countries. Participate in regular facilitated group calls to practice skills and build confidence. Ask questions in the community any time of day or night.

✓ Complete the training to graduate

Finish the training modules and pass the quiz to receive a completion certificate, which is recognised for professional development points with the Australian College of Midwives, DONA International, the Australian Natural Therapies Association and more. No assessments will be marked as part of Training.

✓ Start a business

It’s not feminism if women don’t get paid. Upon graduation, access the bonus Business Module. Grow an audience with content marketing, launch a website and email list, and create, price, and sell products and services.

✓ Continue towards Certification

This training is the first stage towards Postpartum Education and Care Professional Certification, recognised in more than 30 countries. Training students have the option to enrol in a certifying class to submit assessments for marking and complete supported practical hours.
